Cord blood provides an excellent source of CD19+ B cells. B cells play a key role in the immune system; as part of the adaptive immune response, these cells produce and release antibodies to specific pathogen epitopes. CD19 is a common marker used to identify both mature and immature B cells. CD19+ B cells from cord blood have been used to study subjects such as human fetal B cell development, childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and other B cells centric diseases.
Primary human CD19+ B cells were isolated from umbilical cord blood (CB) mononuclear cells (MNCs) using positive immunomagnetic separation techniques. CB was collected using citrate-phosphate-dextrose (CPD) as an anticoagulant.
